Fall Foliage Drive: Lambertville NJ to Highpoint State Park, NJ and back.

This is a little different from our previous drives - more an occassion to enjoy the scenery on a drive up into the hills.

Be warned that this is a longer drive than previous ones. Attendees from NJ and NY are welcome to head their own way on the drive back.

Bring a picnic lunch and 2 way radios if you have them.

Saturday October 13th
Meet 7:15am
Driver's Meeting 7:45am
Depart 8am Sharp!

Meeting point:
Lambertville Municipal Court
25 S Union St, Lambertville, NJ 08530

We anticipate being back in at the start point around 2pm.

FYI- October 12-14 is the Pocono Regions' Oktoberfest IX at the Split Rock Lodge in the Poconos.

Okay, we're doing a dry run Sunday morning - It would be great to have someone who is intending to join us on the 13th join us for the dry run.

Drop me a PM if you're interested.

Okay, we did the dry run today... it's a very pretty drive and was a lot of fun... lots of straights if we choose to stretch our legs a little. Big Grin

I am going to make two modifications to the drive based on what we learned today.

i) I think we'll cut the Delaware Water Gap out of the drive - there are two bottlenecks that are a pain for traffic and I don't think that any of us would have the patience to sit there in traffic.
ii) Ask you all to bring along picnic lunches. We can grab food up there, but I think it would be much more fun to eat up at the monument and enjoy the view. If the weather is bad, then there are near-by restaurants that we can use as a Plan B.

In terms of timing, the arriving back a little after 2pm still seems reasonable. We left at 8am and arrived there at 10:15am. An early picnic lunch would get us back on the road before noon and at our end point before 2pm.

Now, here are some photos taken today... they really don't do the view justice, but it gives you an idea of how amazing the view is from there at the monument - you can probably see over 100 miles in each direction and can see NY, NJ and PA. Pretty cool.

Time for a quick bump in preparation for next week's drive.

Things to remember:
1) Bring a picnic lunch - we will be eating lunch in the park.
2) Make sure you fill up your car and empty your bladder before you arrive in the parking lot.
3) Bring 2-way radios if you have them - it's a good way to keep in touch during the drive.
4) Bring money. The park wasn't charging entrance when we visited, but I don't know if they do charge at peak times.

You will find a coffee shop on Bridge St. in Lambertville for coffee and donuts if you so desire. Also, you will find 2 gas stations at the intersection of Bridge St. and Rte 29 for filling up/emptying out. These gas stations are a short walk from the start point.

The leaves appear to be changing at a good pace right now, so I'm hopeful for some spectacular views by next weekend.
