Hey John - delighted you are coming along - you'll have a great time.
In response to you questions:
it can be a bit intimidating...(you all remember your first time?) Yes, I only lost my virginity last year and have only done it 6 times since ... same goes for autoX
It looks like a stock '07 CaymanS is in the "SS" class. Still just show up at 11:30 for the RTR sub-group? YES. Try to park next to us on far right hand side and introduce yourself - we'll show you round and help with treg and tech etc
I've watched a few AutoX events before, and the amount of gear that some drivers pull out of their trunks is overwhelming (spare tires, compressors, chalk, etc...) Can I just show up with a car and go? YES - most of us have nothing either as do this for casual fun, not seriously like the SCCA boys (well except Nick B). You can turn up with nothing and borrow everything you need. Suggest bring soda, sun cream and hat.
Other than not plowing into cones all day long, anything worth doing to protect the car? Taping, etc... Am I a fool for bringing a new car to autoX? How much damage, even minor/cosmetic, can I do? Might get stone chip if unlucky - we are running PM so course should have been cleaned by am session. I will bring tape if you want to tape up your lurrvvly car - but most don't
Thanks for any tips/advice -- Just Relax, You will have a fab time. First event- just take in all in, focus on the course, do the novice course wlak with experienced person, don't push too hard first time and each time you will get better.
Last piece of advice -- try not to beat us at your first event!
Beth - anything else to add??
