I'm looking to get a lap timer for my car to use at DE's. Something simple and inexpensive.  Some of the models I've seen for sale can be $1000 and up.  I'm really looking for just a basic unit to log basic info.

My understanding is there are beacon-based and GPS-based models.  I'm thinking it might be better with a GPS based unit (?).  Anyone familiar with the Perfomance Box?

Thanks
.

I use the UltraLap Timer by XT Racing.  It's about $250 for the receiver and transmitter.  It stores many many sessions, and auto turns-on-off so you just drive and it does it's thing.  It's light years ahead of the Hot Lap system that many people use.

George, don't worry about lap times!  They don't matter when just starting in DE.  When you are in the upper run groups it is something you may think about.   I have heard that national may make the use of any individual lap timers prohibited in DE.  As it is now per national DE is an untimed event.

Worry more about Lap Dances!

Eric is right - don't worry about lap times yet. Work on being smooth and learning to break better. Big Grin

We all break at some point. Just wish the repair bills were less expensive.

It is better to brake early than break earlyBig Grin
