Is there a Featherlite or similar dealer in the area that you recommend to order an enclosed trailer?

Chris,

I was recently at car show where Trailex were showing their new enclosed trailer, it is worthwhile considering but not cheap. I will bring the brochure to SP

Trailex are very cool, small trailers.  Low headroom and very compact.  Light weight is the key.  I priced them and they are pricey.  You could do better with a bit more weight and a lower price with other brands.

Thanks, I'm looking for a 24' as that seems to be the sweet spot in size and difficulty of tow. I plan on a pickup truck to tow, so the trailer size would be ok. I'm talking to all of these suggestions now. In addition, I'm thinking gooseneck vs. bumper-pull. That's unusual for a 24' car trailer, but the horse people love the gooseneck. I will have a tight space into which to back the trailer for storage and the pickup will be a dedicated tow vehicle, so a gooseneck is an option.

All advice welcome.

Chris,

The gooseneck limits what you can do with the pickup bed as far as carrying things.

You're right, Brian. A gooseneck, even more than a fifth wheel, makes the bed hard to use for anything. This would be a dedicated tow vehicle for me, though, so I do not forsee using the bed for much. The gooseneck trailer trades open bed space for covered space in the attic over the bed when towing.

I'll be roaming the paddock at SP this weekend with my tape measure.

Chris:

If you decide on the gooseneck, there is a hitch that can mount in the bed of the pickup that is retractable.  Ian Carpenter had one and it was great.  You would just click it down to use the full bed, yet when you wanted to tow, the ball would click right back up.

I just didn't want you to give up so easily on the goose-neck idea. Smile
