Winter 2013
Last year was a very productive year for our club with many opportunities to choose, such as track, autocross, and social activities. Our DE program had one major disappointment this year - Watkins Glen was closed on the dates we reserved due to much needed resurfacing after one of their events No matter, the DE program remained one of the highlights within our region.
Jonathan Arena got his feet wet this year as acting chair for the autocross and provided several venues to serpentine through the orange cones. One of the major questions we received was - what happened with "Planes and Porsches"? To answer that question - autocross and Planes and Porsches do not go hand and hand. The previous autocross team had built this up over the years to become a major charity event but it takes a huge amount of effort and time from just more than one person. As newly appointed autocross chair, Jonathan elected to focus more on cars and cones and to just have some fun.
Social chair Wendy Walton had plenty on her calendar for members who just wanted to get out and enjoy each others company with one of the major highlights to the Philadelphia Distilling for a private tour and tasting. Her year ended with the holiday party. Awards were given, food was eaten, people got their groove on by dancing the night away. Although the attendance was rather light for our RTR region, next year will be at the same venue on December 7, 2013 and with the word on how great the food and venue was last year, tickets might be hard to come by for those procrastinators.
Last year also marked our dedicated Der Gasser editors bringing new life to our regional magazine by going fully digital. This new format has saved mucho bucks in the tune of over $30,000 for our club and has a ton of new features and a lot less advertising. Just a few members have been disappointed not to receive a hard copy but the digital copy can always be printed to your printer instantaneously.
The upcoming year promises to have plenty to do on the calendar for all aspects of club. Please be sure to check out the newly appointed website by Jeffrey Walton and his team. They have spent countless hours in order to bring you the most up-to-date information. The track schedule has already been posted as well as the first 6 monthly member meetings, along with various social events. One quick mention, please keep an eye out for August as we will be taking a drive up through central Pa and NY to visited Niagara Falls.
Hope to see both new and old members,
Joe Asher, President
