I'm Dave Hathaway the editor for Der Gasser. I joined the club in 2011 when I became a Porsche owner for the first time by purchasing my 2011 Cayman. To say that I am a proud Porsche owner would be an understatement, but I'm even more proud to be part of the Riesentoter PCA Club.
I've had over 25 years of experience in book publishing, so when the position of Editor for Der Gasser opened up I immediately thought that this would be a good opportunity to combine my new found love of Porsche automobiles and my professional skills.
The other members of the editorial team are Scott Duvall, David Newton and Jeff Walton also share an interest in working on Der Gasser with me, so the four of us are your Ger Gasser editorial team. However, since Der Gasser represents all of the members of the club, all of you are contributing editors as well. The continued success of Der Gasser depends on the quality and quantity of the content delivered to all of the members of our club. In short we need you to help us share your Porsche experiences and knowledge from every autocross, rally, safety, social event, tech event and track event. This newsletter is for you and by you.
Over the past few years, publishing has undergone a transformation that has been both frightening and exhilarating at the same time. The switch to digital format has changed the way we view books and any other written content. While it’s true that many people still love to curl up with a good old fashioned book, others now enjoy and embrace the new technology because of the enhanced reading experience that e-readers and tablets now offer.
In February of 2011 when the four of us took on the task of publishing Der Gasser, the board also asked us to move Der Gasser to a digital format. There were two main goals for making this decision. The first was that the printed version was costing the club far more money than we were able to bring in for advertising. The second goal, which was the most important thing, was the ability to bring an unlimited amount of high quality color content to our members on a more timely basis. We also went from publishing six issues a year to twelve issues.
Each month you will have access to four formats of Der Gasser; PC compatible, Mac compatible, tablet/ iPad compatible, and a PDF version hosted on this website. You can print out these formats anytime you wish to take with you wherever you want. We will also keep back issues archived here for you to read anytime you wish.
We welcome any Porsche related content including articles, photos and video footage you would like to submit for publication in Der Gasser as Der Gasser is for you and about you and your Porsches.
