And Paul correct me if I'm wrong but I interpreted Joe's e-mail to mean that the "motocross" style helmets with chin bar but no face sheild are not acceptable either (which rules out my spare G-Force helmet).

Correct, the picture he sent me is of the type of helmet most of us or auto racers use. The motocross helmet with the extended chin bar is not acceptable.

Do you believe that a face shield must be on the helmet or is a visor acceptable on an SA helmet.

Joe Volpe's reply to me says "full face helmet with visor".  The picture he sent shows a full face helmet with the move able shield/visor.
