Well, we just took it in for an estimate, and were surprised that it isn't totalled.  I guess it's too new.

Apparently, the body shop is only planning on replacing the hood.  They will repair the rest of the car using the paintless dent removal method.  Josh and I are a little apprehensive about this.  Besides the obvious loss of value of the car, we're afraid that the repair will be sub-par.

Has anyone had experience with this type of repair work?

Absolutely!  I had my entire Targa done, front to rear.  As the car is over 20 years old, it had its share of dings and dents.  When I got the car back, I was amazed!! It looked so good.

I'll bet that no one will ever know where the dents were removed.  It is that good a process.  Needless to say, make sure the practitioner is a professional.  We have Mike Murphy down here in the Philly area, and my cousin, George Paddick works in the Wilkes-Barre area.  Both are very good.

Good Luck!

Just settled, verbally, with the insurance company and got a line on the first R32 in our area today.

I could hardly wait to drive it....red....big brakes....good looks...great exhaust note....all the makings of a memorial Labor Day weekend.    I knew the bad news, DSG-only for the US going in.

To my surprise, the car did not drive like I expected at all and did not have the same acceleration of the bunny.  Zero to 60 times are the same as the stock 2.0T but it is quite heavy.  The front end plowed in the corners and the AWD system zapped power to the engine in mid-corner in an attempt to sort some computer functions out.

All in all, I was very disappointed partly b/c I had such high expectations.   It's driving characteristics were more comparable to my past G35X than the GTI.

If you are looking for a new track car that you can drive on the street, Rumor has it that in the $30k price range, a used porsche can fill this need.

This car is a bit more than $30K, but comes with two or three sets of Fikses, plus all OEM parts that were replaced. I know this car and owner. The only change I would make on this car would be adding a roll bar. You can always sell the Fikses (i would take a set) to lower your cost.

Thanks E.   But Jenn couldn't drive a track car to school.   Especially in the winter.

The beauty about the GTI is it's flexibility.   I thought that the R32's AWD (and the fact that I already have MPSCs on spare wheels that fit) would be my answer.

It really looks, growls, and stops well.   I just expected alot more acceleration and cornering ability.

Chris, did you drive one?   If so, what were your thoughts?

No, I have not driven an R32, but I ran into another club member downtown who had just bought one, and he loved it.  He felt it was a really good street car that could be brought to the track every now and then.  And he also had a second set of wheels.
