general opinion about radar

My two cents on Radar.  I have an inexpensive Cobra radar detector  (less than $200).  It works well; however, being a cheaper model, it is much more susceptible to false positives.  That being said, it has saved me a lot more in points and fines.

I'm a big fan of my Valentine One (though it is in need of an update). Saved me too lots of fines, and points (which are only a possibility for PA violations). I don't mind false positives -- which are probably unavoidable with any detector -- so long as the detector picks up all the real threats, as early as possible.

I ended up buying the Passport 9500ix. With traffic cams & speed cams showing up all over the Washington D.C. area I felt it was the best buy. And with the price being protected by Escort, there wasn't any price comparing. Plus, with the Outer Banks right around the corner and having to go up to Allentown a couple of times over the next few months, I was ready to make a decision. So far, it's a really nice detector. I'm sure over time it will pay me back.

I know I can't. 80mph on the Pa TP is going slow these days as I am being passed by all types of vehicles. Mostly woman go figure?

But they are also illegal in PA. And, if an officer is in a particularly cranky mood, can also get you cited for disorderly conduct. Even if you weren't driving the vehicle.

I can attest to all of the above based on personal experience, unfortunately.

Hey, give me a break! I didn't say I ultimately had any convictions or fines or penalties resulting from any of those things. There were no adverse consequences (other than temporarily raising my blood pressure, and wasting a few hours on research and in court). It was so easy even I could take care of it all -- I didn't even need a really good lawyer. (I often tell people, rather accurately, that I hardly know anything about the law that would, as a practical matter, be of much use to real people with real, everyday issues and problems; when I bought my home, for example, and needed to sort things out legally, I hired a lawyer; representing myself would almost have been malpractice. Too much specialization these days.)

But, to answer your question: I do know some darn good lawyers. Like our own club secretary.
