I know that Porsches are great, fast cars. With he advancement of technology, are these cars enjoyable (for the $$$$$$) to drive on the local streets and roads at little over the speed limits? Or Are they only great at the track?
I drive a 42 year old 911, and I feel like a kid in the candy store every time I go for a ride....... do you guys feel the same with the new overpowered fast new Porsches?
I have been lucky to have owned a rust free '69 911T for over 14 years, and I don't remember any time regreting any part of the ownership. I have a massaged 3.2 L engine with a 915 transmission, SC flares, 23 and 30mm torsion bars and turbo brakes. Other than maintenance, really have not done much to the car in the last 5 years. When I first started with RTR and NNJR autocross, with my skills, I had one of the fastest cars and finished with many first places and FTD's. As time passed, I found that many people were arriving with faster and faster cars and my trophies were diminishing year to year. I drive my car to and from events, track and AX....It is still a great road car and can hold my own on the track in the black and instructor groups, enjoying every crack and undulation of the pavement. Controling the car with just your own manual imputs without computer aided devices at speed is exciting and rewarding. The connection I have with the car to the road is like no other. I have been asked to sell my car to others that would like to feel that excitement at REAL SPEEDS, but I enjoy this car so much that I have to keep it till the car reaches its 50th birthday, and then, who knows?
