............. ON THE CONDITION THE APRIL MEETING AT P.O.C. IS CANCELLED I AM 100% SERIOUS - MY FORUM POST IS MY WORD AND BOND. PLEASE DISCUSS AT THE NEXT EXEC MEETING AND LET US KNOW YOUR ANSWER BY THE END OF FEB

"MY WORD IS MY BOND" - The board didn't take kindly to threats and didn't want to go against our by laws in dissing a dealership just b/c one of our members works there - be it a chair or not.  It was clearly written in black and white...in order to have PnP we needed to cancel p.o.c.  Since we weren't cancelling a meeting, it died by the very sword you had held. 

That said there will most probably be a new charity event dealing with an autocross (in the works) - a different venue and a different charity. So for those who did step up to the plate and volunteered their time I would hope you support a very worthy cause and your efforts will most definitely be appreciated. Again more to come in the days ahead. And yes we may be a bit dysfunctional but what families aren't? Together we grow and the common bond of a fine automobile will help to keep us together.

OK, so just to summarize:

1. The originator of the event offered to step up to the plate and run the 2013 Planes and Porsches event

2. A bunch of people rallied behind him and his efforts

3. One of our favorite lunatics offered to supply the beer

4. One of our favorite doctors offered to supply free pork fat wrapped in synthetic casings

5. We had a location, potential sponsors and a deserving charity all lined up to benefit from the event

6.. The Exec Board discussed this at a meeting, after they chose to not invite the person who offered to re-ignite the event to that meeting, and then they decided, "No thanks".

Is this some type of bizarro world joke where people do the opposite of the right thing and expect it to be accepted?

Please remember the fact - this was based on a condition that went against our by laws. Steve said he would run it based on the fact we needed to cancel p.o.c's member meeting. Since that wasn't going to happen what choice did that leave us? Again - we didn't make the rules or the condition. The fact of the matter was people went after this in an improper manner and consequences happened as a result. Yes it was a worthy charity and I will miss the fun we all had...in my mind it was a fantastic event that will be missed. But as I said before there will most probably be a new charity event and I hope all of you who volunteered with PnP would step up to the plate in your support.

Jeff, just to clarify, what by-law would have been violated had that meeting been re-scheduled at a different venue? I get the board bridling at an ultimatum, but when you refer to the by-laws I'm confused.

So when Steve singled out p.o.c this was in direct violation by exclusively denying a member meeting at a current Porsche dealership.

Jeff, thanks for the clarification.

I'll just say this: In the interest of the charity, perhaps some cooler heads on both sides could have prevailed, invited Steve and others to the Exec meeting in order to find some common ground to get this up and running again and come to some sort of compromise.

It seems to me that forum posts, as much fun as they can be, are not the best way of resolving what seems to be a conflict. Some members believe that the PnP event should not be abandoned, and they feel it strongly enough that many have pledged to organize the event in 2013 and contribute food and drink. Steve, one of those members, expressed a lot of anger at the current AX chair and made what I believe to be an unreasonable demand to cancel a member meeting at the chair's employer. The best result (for our club as a whole, the AXers and the charity in question) cannot be that no one talks to each other to figure out a way for PnP to continue. I cannot say I know the answer Steve would give to being asked whether he would do all he said he would do if the member meeting was still held at POC, but I think the question should have been asked by phone, e-mail or (best) in person. To refuse to engage in that dialog based on the supposed unconditionality of the demand to cancel the meeting may not be as petulant as making that demand, but it is not the leadership I would hope to see of our Board.

It is not too late for PnP to return for 2013 if we try harder to make it happen. It's a proven event with a lot of support that would be much less of an effort to organize than a whole new event, and it would be a good way for all those involved in this forum discussion to put their keyboards down and do something good together.
