That bracket is definitely a tight fit.  The last time I had my engine out, I was able to take a look at the setup.  If you can wait until you drop the engine next, it would be much easier, as the bottom part you are describing is a tight fit.  It kind of snakes through the emgine tins and the rear engine mount.

When Myles did his, I think he ended up cutting it flush instead of unbolting the whole thing.

But in the end, not much weight savings as it is aluminum.
