That's the way to do it. Also, though I didn't feel that I would like it, my race car had its tach turned so that the redline was straight up. Turns out that I find it much easier to see, as I can recognize the pointers position at a glance (I don't have to read it) and I do not need to lower my eyes as much to see it.
