Millville[/b], New Jersey[/b]. June 21, 2007.[/b]                                    The City of Millville and New Jersey Motorsports Park (NJMP), featuring Thunderbolt Raceway, announced today that they cleared the last hurdle with the completion of the wire transfer to the City of Millville for the land sale, thus paving the way for construction to begin on the $150 million project.

 

NJMP Principal Lee Brahin stated, “It’s been a very challenging process, much more than we imagined, but now that this day has arrived, we look forward to a very bright future in Millville, Cumberland County and the South Jersey region.�? Other principals of NJMP are Harvey Siegel, owner of Virginia International Raceway and Joe Savaro.

 

Millville Mayor James Quinn announced, “This is the beginning of a brand new day in Millville. Words cannot express how thrilled we are to have this project, the biggest in the history of Millville, start construction. And how wonderful to now have all of these opportunities coming to Millville.�?

 

It is estimated there will be nearly 1000 jobs for the construction of the project, followed by 1500 full and part-time jobs upon final completion of the Motorsports Park.

 

Millville Vice Mayor Joe Derella commented, “The New Jersey Motorsports Park project will bring a positive social economic impact on the City and the entire region. The City knew from the beginning what a powerful impact the Motorsports Park could have on Millville, and it helped us keep our eye on the many benefits a project of this magnitude brings.�?

 

Construction for Phase I, which begins immediately, is the first of three phases. It includes: Thunderbolt raceway and ancillary facilities, track-related services, concessions, shade tree garages, country club clubhouse, VIP suites, skid pad and karting track. Phase I is slated to open late spring/early summer 2008, and provide 200 jobs.

 

The New Jersey Motorsports Park (NJMP) is a $150 million Motorsports Park located on over 700 acres of land adjacent to Millville Airport. When completed, it will be the only Motorsports Park in the United States with such diverse venues. Venues include Thunderbolt Raceway, karting and skid pad facility, a 3/4 mile tri-oval and an off road vehicle course for extreme sports. Upon completion, NJMP will consist of a conference center, several hotels and restaurants, esearch and development office campus, retail stores, clubhouse, shade tree garages, VIP suites and event garages and trackside resort villas. Project Status:

I was invited to tour of the NJMP construction site. The first bulldozers went to work on May 29th, followed one week later by 6 earthmovers, and now 12 earthmovers are hard at it daily.

Nick, any idea about elevation changes for the tracks? I could not tell what to expect from the plans.

Being so close to sea level there are not natural elevation changes.  Don't expect the elevation changes of VIR.  The land is being graded now and the current plan is to have elevation changes of approximately 50 ft.

Lets hope they get the drainage right with what ever elevation change it has.  If not you will get Lake Thunderbolt where ever the lowest point is.  The soil in SE Jersey does not absorb much water.

The earthmovers are busy.  You can see Light Bulb turn and today they are cutting out the straight away.  In the next few weeks, a ground breaking ceremony will be announced and held on 9/19/07.  Current plan is to begin laying pavement in Oct or Nov provided it doesn't snow on Halloween and a Native American burial ground isn’t uncovered at start/finish.  With a mild winter and a 6 month cure time, the entire track can be open in the summer of 2008.
