The social responsibility is to prosecute, clearly. My understanding is that since the club is a non-profit that the state is taking over that responsibility and is performing an investigation. So I think the wheels are already in motion.

Darren,

You are correct. As a club, we have done what we are required to do. We have investigated internally and had an independent third party accounting firm issue a report. We have expelled the past-Treasurer from the club. We have also turned all the information we have over to the state, who is performing an investigation. The information is in the hands of the state and they will decide whether there is enough information to prosecute.

We should have all of the facts before we comment and pass judgement. Making statements based on rumor is wrong.

Remember, for years this person was our friend. If he has done something wrong, then I will expect a full apology and he should reimburse the club for all expense and diverted income. If he has done nothing wrong, then we should apologize.

I hope and pray that this is just a huge misunderstanding.

In the spirit of this time of attonement and forgiveness in the Jewish religion, I hope all can attone for what they have done, and all can forgive those whose transgressions have affected us.

Well put! Many of us broke bread (or Kielbasa) with him on many occasions at the DE events.

I will not vote until the facts from the State are in.

I do wonder though, the one set of Minutes indicate that our Ad revenue went from $11K to $2K - is there any findings as to what transpired causing a $9K drop?

All,

We hired a CPA firm, Siegal and Drossner, to review our financial records for the period that the past-Treasurer was in office. The results were summarized in the President's letter which was emailed to all members last week. The letter explains the amount which was taken and how the funds were missappropriated. This will answer the question as to was caused the $9k drop in ad revenue. Please send me a message personally if you did not receive the email and I will forward it to you. I think this should clear up the questions.

If you'll recall, the original thread on this issue (see " President's Report on the State of our Club") was started BEFORE the investigation (and the associated final report) was complete. I was the one that said we should reserve any comments until the facts were in, as I agree that "making statements based on rumor is wrong".

The comments contained herein were made AFTER receiving The Presidents Report containing "the facts" on the "misappropriation" of funds by the ex-Treasurer.

There must be consequences for inappropriate and/or illegal behavior, friend or not. That was the Clubs money, OUR money! I wonder if we would be so willing to "forgive and forget" if the misappropriated funds were from our grandmothers retirement fund, leaving her broke, a la Bernie Madoff. I, for one, would not. We were lucky enough to have a Club President and Executive Board that took their fiduciary responsibilities seriously enough to uncover this issue early enough to hopefully avoid any serious damage to our Club's finances.

I agree but more important is the social responsiblity to make sure that, assuming this is all true, he can't be responsible for the finances of other organizations/people.

I agree! When someone is in charge of one's finances, it's a matter of trust. When that person betrays that trust, and the responsibilities associated with that trust, they MUST be held accountable.

Dear god,

With current state of the club in mind, I feel that what you posted to be more inflammatory than anything else. Your post does nothing to help the club heal and move forward.

I have read the accountant's report, but yet await action by the Commonwealth before making judgement.

Being a business owner, I have learned that different accountants can have different opinions using the same information. Look at how the former Treasurer's club's financial records differs from the report of the accountant that the E-Board hired. Which version is the true version? I have my OPINION, but I await the decision of the State.

The State may decide to prosecute the club and/or the Treasurer or any other current or previous E-Board member. If the State prosecutes the Treasurer the State Department of Professional and Occupational Affairs will get involved which can lead to suspension or revocation of a person's professional license.

I like you applaud the E-Board for taking action, but it is better for the club, for our members not to personally convict someone on this forum, or make statements that cause greater ill feelings within the membership of our club.

I am planning on attending the meeting tonight. I will be wearing blue scrubs. If you would like to discuss anything further, feel free to approach me.

Dear cab,

In no way was this thread meant to "inflame" the issue or "personally convict" someone. If you read the initial post, it simply asks for Club members OPINION on the issue. I reserved my opinion until after I received The Presidents letter with the independent accountants "version". I would like to think most people understand it's nothing personal, it's business. My only intent was to give the members a forum to voice their opinions.

Hey god, it is just little o'me again. I think our E-Board is taking care of the situation. No need to to request opinions. If one would like to comment, I know the members of this forum know how to start threads and post.

Stealing is wrong, but he didn't kill, assault or rape anyone. So don't start errecting the gallows just yet. Let the process continue, and at the end justice will be served.

For more than five years he was our friend who would help fix and maintain our cars, lend his tools, cook a meal for us, have a beer with us and talk as a friend with us. What was descriebed and is wriiten in the report of the accountant that was hired by the E-Board is wrong, but haven't all of us done something wrong in our lives? Good thing our friends have forgiven us.

Is god a caring and forgiving god, or a vengeful god?
