That was unbelievable. At first, I thought it was a joke, too. Nobody could be that bad.
No one said instructing would always be easy, but -- with the right attitude, it's always rewarding. "Dan" hasn't learned that, and may never.
My first student had about 2 track days under his belt, was driving a 350Z, that he had modded to the hilt, on big, fat R888's. He was a competent driver, but had a real hard time with downshifting and braking (talk about jerky). And, to top it all off, he was Russian, and English was a very new second language to him. On our out lap, he started off at full throttle on cold tires, and I thought we were both goners.
I managed to (politely) rein him in a little, and asked him to go easy for the rest of the session, until I had a chance to get a feel for his driving style. From that point on, he progressed very well through the weekend. By the end of the first day, we were lapping the rest of Green group 3 or 4 times a session.
