In 1970, Der Gasser changed its format from the two page mimeographed flyer to a pamphlet, complete with photographs and advertisements.

President John Chatley notices his spark-plugs went up by 60 cents. A set of them now costs $5.

During 1971, membership nearly doubled, due to the efforts of Wayne Flegler as activities chairman. In this same year, the first driver's school (one day event) was held at Pocono International Raceway, with nearly 100 cars attending in spite of the rain.

It was reported that 42 cars dropped oil on the course for the Duryea Hillclimb resulting in only 2 runs per car on Sunday. Dick Schuck established a record in "C" Production class in his 911.

- Only 4.8% attended Northern New Jersey's Porscherama.

Bill Schmidt Broken Crankshaft Award came into existence, the first recipient being Rocky Williams. During this time the 914's were introduced and Howard Reed received the first Battered (at some later unknown date became Tattered) Helmet Award for buying the first 914 in the region.

The nickname Riesentöter, which loosely translated means "Giant Killer", was adopted by the regional membership, as was the checkered flag and Speedster insignia. The official change to Riesentöter came in 1974

A new point system is put in place for the Riesentöter Award:
- 5 Points - Attend a monthly meeting
- 5 Points - Attend a Riesentöter event
- 5 Points - Participate in a Riesentöter event.
- 5 Points - Work at a Riesentöter event
- 15 Points - Chair an event.
- 40 Points - Attend the parade
- 25 Points - Attend a multi-regional event.
- 10 Points - Write an article for Der Gasser or Pano

There's no tie in baseball but apparently there is in softball as the 911/912 team scores 5 runs as so does the 356/914 team at the annual Riesentöter Picnic

Motion is granted to John Stalma of Scranton to start the formal paper work to create the Pocono Region - an offspring of RTR.

Riesentöter learns to sing "Schaefer is the one beer to have, if you're having more than one" as they tour the Schaefer Brewery in the Lehigh Valley with free beer in the Stein Room followed by fun and games and amusement park food at Dorney Park.
